To ensure equal access to education and promote educational excellence throughout the nation, ED must fill some significant talent gaps due to retirements among its current workforce. Some of its critical hiring needs are in the areas of business and management analysis, education program specialist skills, financial management and reporting, project management, and information technology. In all, ED expects to hire hundreds of employees - in a variety of occupations and at a variety of levels - during the next year.
More generally, ED seeks to bring on individuals with a comprehensive understanding of its business functions and to bolster its cadre of talented employees whose skills - as well as leadership potential - can be developed over time. The traditional recruiting, hiring and redeploying of the vast majority of employees simply takes too long - ED needs new approaches. Addressing ED's hiring needs today will enhance the educational opportunities of our children tomorrow.
